“I am in charge of how I feel, and today I choose happiness.”
This is a declaration of independence from the external circumstances that we often let dictate our emotional state.
Your choice to embrace happiness doesn't just transform you; it influences those around you.
Happiness is contagious. When you radiate positivity, you not only uplift your life but also inspire change in others. You radiate the golden glow like the most beautiful candle.
You shine brightly and you never allow anyone to blow out your light.
When you affirm, "I am in charge of how I feel," you reclaim your power.
You reclaim power over your emotional state.
It's a reminder that while you can't control every aspect of your life, your emotions are your domain.
You are the architect of your inner landscape.
The latter part of the affirmation, "today I choose happiness," is a testament to the power of choice.
Happiness is not a random event, but a state that can be chosen, cultivated, and nurtured. It's about shifting focus from what's going wrong to what's going right, from lack to abundance, from fear to love.
This affirmation is not about denying or ignoring the harsh realities of the world.
The existence of hatred, racism, genocide, violence, and wars is deeply troubling, and these issues deserve our attention and action.
This affirmation is not a call to pretend that everything is perfect or to turn a blind eye to the oppression, inequality and suffering around us.
One of the greatest injustices in society is suffering. When we choose happiness and when we choose to be in charge of how we feel, we then are in a position of creating positive influence.
Often, the most practical and immediate method to create a positive influence is by performing acts of kindness and generosity in your own community, particularly aimed at those who might be facing hardships. Simple, daily gestures and moments of celebration can have a significant and lasting impact. These small acts, when accumulated, contribute to a more compassionate and supportive environment for everyone.
Thích Nhất Hạnh wrote, “It is possible to live happily in the present moment. It is the only moment we have.'‘
Living happily in the present moment doesn't mean forcing a smile in the face of tragedy or pretending that everything is fine when it's not. It's about being fully present with whatever we are experiencing – whether it's joy, sorrow, or something in between – and finding a way to cultivate inner peace and happiness amidst it all.
Choosing happiness is not about ignoring the pain and suffering that exist. Instead, it's about recognizing that our power lies in the present moment – in how we choose to think, feel, and act now. This present-focused approach allows us to acknowledge and respond to the world's injustices while maintaining an inner sanctuary of peace and positivity.
What I’m thinking about this week: The potential and positive impact of a more focused approach to mental health in the United States. Specifically, I envision the benefits of providing accessible, affordable, and secure counseling services within all educational environments. Such an initiative could be a pivotal step towards addressing and ultimately mitigating family violence. By ensuring that mental health support is readily available in schools and other educational settings, we could foster healthier family dynamics and contribute to the overall well-being of our communities.
Subscribe and Share my YouTube Channel (but why)?
92 days ago, I started posting to YouTube and haven’t stopped. I’d like to reach 1,000 subscribers within this year, ideally in the next three months. Even if you don’t use YouTube could you please share my channel? Could you engage and comment? These are all ways that my subscriber base can grow.
I started my YouTube in December 2022 but didn’t start posting until literally 92 days ago. I want to keep up my streak to 1,000 days in a row and not missing a day. I know I can do it because when I go after something I want, I do not stop until I get it. If you believe in me, if you like this newsletter please interact with my YouTube Channel. I have been online since 1998 and people begged me in 2004 to make a YouTube channel. I wish I had then, because I really see the value in it—now. Funny how things work like that.
Listen to a vintage playlist, back when I used to have a weekly radio show for no other reason than besides the fact that someone asked me to—and why did I say yes back then?
I said yes because the person that asked me had a dream, a vision, something they believed in—and when you live in a community you work together to build visions, to help dreams come true and to make things happen for each other.
If you’re reading this right now, I know you are someone that can make things happen—one way or another :)
